Ryan Grantham, a Canadian actor, admitted to killing his mother, Barbara Waite, in 2020 and was given a life term in prison.

On Wednesday, Justice Kathleen Ker of the British Columbia Supreme Court in Vancouver sentenced the 24-year-old.

After being accused of first-degree murder at first, he pleaded guilty to second-degree murder.

On March 31, 2020, Grantham, then age 21, fatally shot his mother in the head while she was practicing the piano at home.

He also allegedly planned to kill Justin Trudeau, the prime minister of Canada, but instead of going to his home, he allegedly drove to Vancouver police headquarters and gave himself in.

In court, Ker stated that Grantham had a lot of mental health concerns and had been experiencing a "severe period of clinical depression" prior to the murder.
